Low-E (Low Emissive) glass has a hard film coating that restricts the passage of radiant heat. To the naked eye, Low-E glass looks similar to float glass, but a shade darker in colour. The use of Low-E glass in place of standard glass returns a sizeable saving in the ongoing costs of heating and cooling a home. This coating means that even with single glazing, thermal values are greatly improved. It does this by reflecting the near-infrared light – the light responsible for transmitting up to fifty percent of the heat into a room. Low-E Safety Glass is 8.38mm thick laminated and is available for areas which require laminated glass, such as large single sheets of glass, wet areas, in doors and in low windows. The interlayer stops more than 90 percent of ultra violet light (the light that fades furniture, curtains, etc). Ultraviolet light is comprised of approximately 2 percent heat, 47 percent visible and 51 percent near-infrared, based on an average, daylight result from direct sun radiation. Samples of Low-E glass are available for viewing in our showroom. The joinery pictured below has been glazed in Low-E and Low-E Safety glass. |
