Balanced-Hung Windows

Wittmont's Winthrop windows open smoothly and simultaneously from the top and the bottom without taking space internally or externally. Most of the grand old homes have double hung windows that open onto verandahs, removing the risk of injury as someone moves past – especially children who are often at a vulnerable height. Wittmont’s Winthrop windows NEVER rattle in the wind and NEVER stick or bind. (This was common with the weight and balance type hardware and spiral balancers used in the old-style double-hung windows).

Tired with the constant problems associated with the old weight and balance type hardware used traditionally in old style double-hung windows, Wittmont developed a unique new system which is durable and long-lasting. Since the mid-nineties, Wittmont has been replacing windows in older homes which haven’t been opening for years with beautiful new Winthrop windows which open effortlessly every time. Such is the quality of our design, materials and hardware that no maintenance of the components is required.

For operation, the sash lock must be unlocked and unlatched at the top of the lower sash, and the lower sash lifted with the sash lifts. As the bottom sash slides up with ease, the top sash, simultaneously and unaided, moves downwards until, in the fully open position, they sit over the top of one another. A gap for ventilation has appeared both above and below the open sashes.

Each pair comes with one key lockable latch, a pair of sash lifts and a single flyscreen which is fitted to the outside of the frame. Sash locks and lifts are available in a gold or satin-chromed finish.
