| Tolerances - the gap that seals |

Wittmont realises that the key ingredient in manfacturing doors and sashes that operate reliably is the use of large clearances between the frame and opening door or sash. Large gaps are especially important between the sash and the sill on window frames. If this gap exceeds 5mm, capillary action does not occur, and the age-old problem of rotting sashes is averted. Ordinarily, large gaps would not be conducive to keeping the weather out. However, the use of double rebates combined with weather seals ensure a perfect seal every time whilst allowing for seasonal timber movement. |
